Engineering

Engineering staff is involved in all aspects of infrastructure and development within the Town of Platteville. Whether improving drainage, planning streets and parking, or ensuring safety of our pedestrian walkways and crosswalks, Engineering reviews plans and monitors construction to ensure strict adherence to Guidelines and Standards.

All construction, repair, augmentation, and new development affecting the infrastructure of the Town must adhere to current construction and design standards.

  • Storm Drainage Standards: The Platteville Storm Drainage Criteria Manual provides analysis and design criteria for storm drainage facilities designed to reduce flooding and improve the quality of water released into the river system. Additional information may be found at the Urban Drainage and Flood Control District.
  • Streets and Transportation Standards: The Platteville Street Criteria Manual is intended to provide all necessary information regarding design, review and construction of projects and public improvements impacting public right-of-way and public easements. This manual addresses streets, sidewalks, curb and gutter, drainage, lighting, signage and signals, landscaping, trails, and soils sampling and testing.
  • Water and Sewer Standards: The Platteville Water and Sewer Criteria Manual presents the minimum design and technical criteria for water distribution, sanitary sewer collection and non-potable irrigation system design.

Other specifications and manuals can be found at the Colorado Department of Transportation Design and Construction Support site.

Streets and Sidewalks

Maintenance

The Town of Platteville is responsible for repair and construction of sidewalks throughout the community. The majority of sidewalks in the Town of Platteville are located on private property. To ensure safe pedestrian circulation, snow and ice must be removed from sidewalks by all residents within 24 hours.

The sidewalk maintenance fee pays not only to maintain existing sidewalks but to install new sidewalks or connect existing walks that have large gaps between concrete sections. Each year Town staff and engineers prioritize existing walks in need of repair, and plan the most cost effective way to add sidewalks to the existing network of walks in Platteville. If your walk is deteriorating and in need of repair, please report that to Town Hall.

It is the home owner's or renter's responsibility to clear the snow from their sidewalks. Local Code allows 24 hours after a storm to complete this task.

Oversized Loads

Trucks carrying oversized or overweight loads must file a permit application. An Oversize/Overweight Permit may be obtained at Town Hall. Please submit permit application 48 hours in advance. Call Town Hall for more information.

Water and Sewer

In Platteville, drinking water is supplied by the Central Weld County Water District. You can view results of supply source testing at CWCWD. In addition to testing at the source, lead and copper levels in drinking water is tested locally. The results of those tests are published annually in Platteville Consumer Confidence Report.
